Another Short Game Tip
Have you ever tried, or seen somebody, using a fairway wood to play a chip shot?
It's one good answer to a situation where there is fairly short but fluffy grass all around, or
behind, the ball. The fairway wood's sole plate is rounder and presents less surface area
to potentially catch the grass behind the ball than the sharper, flatter blade of an iron or
a putter. So the shot is almost like putting, but but with less danger of the grass grabbing the
club.
Players use it in a variety of situations. It's a neat shot and worth learning - you never can have too many tricks in your bag, now can you?
