jab
("jab stroke") a jerky, unrhythmic stroke (usually putting, but can be seen in other short game strokes as well) most commonly involving abrupt contractions of muscles in the fingers, hands, arms
Example: I have seen many good ballstrikers who, if not for a woeful jab stroke, might have been exceptionally good players overall.
jail
when the ball is in a position where it cannot be swung at or advanced at all, or in any normal way (e.g., in thick trees)
Example: I hit it in jail on number 2 and had to take an unplayable lie.
jar
(also "can") another term for the hole or cup
Example: Knock that thing in the jar/can and let's get out of here.
jigger
archaic term for a wedge/pitching wedge
Example: The jigger was Nigel's favorite club.
jump
(also "fly") to fly farther than desired as a result of decreased backspin, usually resulting from long grass (but also could be water) between the ball and clubface at impact
Example: The ball really jumped and her 7 iron shot airmailed the green.
jumper
(also "jumper, flier, flyer, shooter") a shot that flies farther than intended (see "jump") or a lie that causes the ball to fly farther than intended
Example: She got a jumper in the left rough and her 7 iron shot airmailed the green.
